Hoka Bondi 8 Review: Best Shoes for Foot Pain | Comfort & Fit

For Chronic Foot Pain, Plantar Fasciitis, Bone Spurs, etc... The Hoka Bondi 8 is simply the Best Shoe Out There.

Who makes the best shoes for various foot pains? Living with chronic foot pain is a much different experience compared to flare ups of plantar fasciitis caused by micro tears in the foot.

With chronic foot pain, the expectation is to manage the pain via a schedule of stretching, creams, insoles and shoes. This type of pain usually comes from overuse or regular stress on the damaged foot, like having shoes that don’t fit properly or walking for long periods of time without rest.

With the Hoka Bondi 8, Hoka has created a shoe that can treat your feet to the maximum cushion available on the market.

With a very easy 30 day return policy, if you suffer from daily foot pain, its hard to find a better option.

The Best Shoe For Foot Pain Caused by Plantar Fasciitis

When it comes to foot pain caused plantar fasciitis flare ups, the pain tends to come in waves and is often caused by an increase in activity or weight bearing.

Short-term treatments like icing and arch supports may help, but recurring problems will require more comprehensive therapy such as orthotics or physical therapy exercises.

The Bondi 8 provide excellent support and cushioning, and they have helped to reduce PF pain and inflammation significantly. We would highly recommend them to anyone who is suffering from plantar fasciitis.

The Best Shoe for Injuries

Then there is the wonderful experience of actually tearing the plantar fascia. What once was a routine of management now becomes the necessary steps of healing an internal wound.

I suffer from Chronic Foot pain and mild Plantar Fasciitis until a few months ago when during an ice storm, our pipes froze in our apartment and flooding occurred.

I spent the day sloshing to and from our overflowing kitchen sink and the bathtub, where I was emptying the overflow into the unfrozen bathtub pipes. It was a total mess.

My feet began freezing and I made the horrible decision to take my wet shoes off and start sloshing barefoot. This went on for hours before a plumber could make it out. I passed out on the couch around midnight, finally able to rest when the plumber left.

The next day however, began months of a brand new pain: I had torn something near my heal and had aggravated my plantar fasciitis so much every footstep pulsed with pain.

The hunt was on for a shoe that would let me walk again. The hunt was on for the best shoes for foot pain.

My brother had recommended the Bondi 7 but by the time I purchased the shoe, Hoka had premiered the Bondi 8. Its thick cushioning and supportive midsole claimed to provide excellent shock absorption and reduces pain and inflammation. I decided to give them a try, and I was not disappointed.

The Bondi 8 is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn and helped me get back on my feet within days.

Bondi 8 vs The Competition

I’m a big fan of the OnCloud Cloud Monster shoe. I thought they were the most comfortable running shoes I had ever worn. However, when I tore my plantar fascia, I quickly realized that they were not the best shoes for healing.

The Cloud Monster is a relatively thin profile and so can cause awkward steps. The Cloud Monster has the highest cushion of any shoe On Cloud makes, which is great for creating the feeling of running on clouds. However, when healing, the foot tends to naturally step away from the pain.

I started doing some research and tried a few different brands. New Balance 999’s with the Abzorb cushion was supportive but my heal would scream in pain after a few blocks. Same with my Hoka Clifton 9 ‘s. I found myself wearing my Cloud Monster Running Shoes all day just to cause less irritation on my torn area. Then Hoka released the Bondi 8. I found the aethetics of the Hoka Bondi 8 much more attractive than the Bondi 7.

The Best Shoe for Wide Feet

The Bondi 8 is available in wide sizes which can be excellent for healing for several reasons. The first is the aforementioned step, the Bondi 8, especially in wide sizes, allows for a very forgiving step. So when unconsciously stepping away from pain, you won’t be in danger of rolling an ankle.

Also, the extra room can be ideal for adding support such as a heal pad or compression socks. I find that my feet are right on the edge of wide and for some brands like Nike, a wide fit is much more comfortable.

BREAKDOWN

Cushioning

The Bondi 8 has a thick cushioning system that provides excellent shock absorption. This helps to reduce pain and inflammation, and it also makes the shoe very comfortable to wear.

Support

The Bondi 8 has a supportive midsole that provides excellent arch support. This helps to reduce pain and inflammation, and it also helps to prevent further injury.

Fit

The Bondi 8 has a comfortable fit that is true to size. The mesh upper is breathable and helps to keep your feet cool and comfortable. One thing we think is absolutely brilliant is that the tongue design is fashioned to be off to the side. It has always been strange to me that shoe tongues are fully centered. Every pair of shoes I’ve ever owned, the tongue eventually drifts off to one side. To see that Hoka addressed this is quite brilliant.

Build Quality

The Bondi 8 is a durable shoe that is built to last. The cushioning system is very thick and will not wear down quickly.

Style

This is where Hoka has really lacked in the past and even though The Bondi 8 is aesthetically a step up from previous models, they are still hard to pair with many outfits. The Hoka 8 comes in a variety of colors from tame to wild. The thing with having a massive cushion for achy feet is that the shoes can have a moon-boot look that is just hard to consider stylish.

Hoka deserves a great deal of credit and has really made great strides in the style department through collaborations and beautiful new models such as the Anacapa Breeeze.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, the Hoka Bondi 8 is an excellent shoe for all sorts of chronic foot problems like plantar fasciitis. They provide insane amount of cushioning, support, and comfort. If you are suffering from foot issues like plantar fasciitis, I highly recommend giving them a try.

I have now been wearing the Hoka Bondi 8 for several months, and I am very happy with them. They have helped to reduce my pain and inflammation significantly, and they are also very comfortable to wear.

I have also tried other shoes for chronic foot pain such as the Brooks Ghost, the Saucony Kinvara, and the aforementioned On Cloud Monster. However, I have found that the Hoka Bondi 8 is the best shoe for me. They provide the best cushioning and support, and they are also the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.
